What is a Botox®̀
treatment like?
Botox cosmetic is a quick and minimally invasive procedure consisting of
a few tiny injections. The entire procedure takes approximately 10
minutes, and there is no downtime afterwards. Discomfort is minimal and
brief. It is unlikely, but you may experience localized pain, infection,
inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising at
the injection sites.
How soon will I see a difference?
You can
expect to see results within 2-7 days, but you may continue to see
improvement for up to 2 weeks. On average the results last for 2-4
months. After that, many clients are ready to return for a follow-up
treatment.
Is it expensive?
Actually,
it is quite affordable. A recent survey showed that those with annual
household incomes of less than $100,000 (44%) were more likely to be
treated with Botox®.
Working mothers between the ages of 40 to 55 are the most common users
of Botox cosmetic.
The primary areas of treatment are the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s
feet. The range for each area is (individuals may vary):
*Forehead: $140- $210
*Frown lines: $240 - $300
*Crow’s feet: $190 - $240
Will I still be able to make facial expressions?
The muscle
activity is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised
without the wrinkles and creases.
Is Botox safe?
Botox
cosmetic has been widely tested and used for over 20 years. It is
derived from a naturally occurring protein known as botulinum toxin type
A. The most common side effects are temporary eyelid droop and nausea.
Serious heart problems and serious allergic reactions have been reported
rarely. Persons with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS,
Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton Syndrome may be at increase risk of
serious side effects and should consult with heir physician prior to
contemplating Botox.
Juvéderm™.........$500
per tube

What is Juvéderm?
It is a
hyaluronic acid which is a highly hydrophyllic polysaccharide component
of collagen that is found in all living cells. It attracts and binds
more than 1000 times its weight in water which explains it’s hydrating,
volumizing effect on the skin. There are two different types of
Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. Juvederm Ultra
contains 24 milligrams of hyaluronic acid. Ultra Plus also has 24
milligrams but is crosslinked at 8% as opposed to 6% making it more
viscous and longer lasting.
What are the Juvederm products used for?
As we age,
our skin and underlying tissue change, causing the “signs” of aging.
These include loss of skin elasticity, sagging, thinning of the upper
lip, and atrophy of the subcutaneous tissue. Also, lines caused from
normal expressions over the years become furrows which are deep lines
that do not disappear when the skin is stretched.
Juvederm products
can decrease the sagging and shadowing at the lines from the nose down
to either side of the mouth as well as the indentation/shadowing at and
below the corners of the mouth. It is also effective in decreasing the
appearance of deep horizontal forehead lines, frown lines, “smoker’s”
lines of the lips, and the chin crease. Juvederm is very effective for
improving deep facial scars from severe acne and injury. Of course the
most fun aspect of this product is that it can be use to plump the lips,
which can decrease the appearance of the “smoker’s” lines and make you
look sexier!
How much does it cost?
The cost of
each tube is $500.00. One area such as the nasolabia folds, forehead and
frown lines, or lips will use a full tube each. However, even if less
than one tube is required the minimum charge is for one tube. More than
one area will usually require more than one tube. If the lines or folds
are deep, better results may be achieved by using both the Ultra and the
Ultra Plus. The Ultra Plus to fill in the deeper portion and the Ultra
to soften the more superficial portion of the lines or folds.
Is it safe?
Juvederm is
generally well tolerated. The most commonly reported side effects are
temporary injection-site redness, swelling, pain/tenderness, firmness,
lumps/bumps, bruising and infection. It is not recommended that you
receive this treatment if you have any increased risk of prolonged
bleeding such as taking aspirin, anticoagulants or ibuprofen within 72
hours of procedure. Patients on immunosuppressive therapy should not use
this treatment as there is increased risk of infection. If you have a
history of excessive scarring (eg hypertrophic scarring and keloid
formation) and/or pigmentation disorders should not use this product.
Juvederm should not be used in persons who have severe allergies with or
without a history of anaphylaxis or allergies to gram-positive bacterial
proteins. Safety has not been established in pregnancy, breastfeeding or
persons less than 18 years of age.
